Terms of Service

Short, because every line here is one we can stand behind today. A fuller version replaces this before anyone is charged.

Last updated September 24, 2026. These are interim terms.

HeyJanet is in early access. Accounts are set up by hand, no payment is being taken, and a complete set of terms — currently with our attorney — will replace this page before that changes. We will tell the account administrator before it does.

What you are agreeing to

Your documents remain yours. We hold them for you. They live in a Google Shared Drive that we operate, in a folder belonging to your company, under our Google Workspace account — not in a Drive of your own, and not in a database of ours. You keep every right in them; what we have is custody, not ownership. Separately we keep the index, the version history and the activity record that make the library trustworthy.

Because we are the ones holding the files, two commitments go with that. You can download or copy anything at any time through Google Drive. And if you leave, we hand the library over — transferred into a Drive you control, or exported to you in full with the index and version history, whichever you prefer, at no charge. See Ending it below.

We change things inside that storage to do the job. We create folders, upload what you send, rename files to a consistent convention, move documents you replace into an archive folder, and write rows to your index. Nothing is deleted — a replaced document is archived, not erased.

You are responsible for what you upload. That you have the right to upload it, that it is lawful, and that it is accurate. That applies to everyone you invite to your workspace as well as to you.

Do not upload protected health information. No patient records, medical record numbers, diagnosis codes or prescriber identifiers. Nor Social Security numbers or payment card numbers. We screen uploads for several of these and refuse them before anything is stored, but that is a safeguard and not a guarantee — HeyJanet is not a HIPAA Business Associate and will not sign a Business Associate Agreement.

What we do and do not promise

We do not promise that any AI answer is correct. The assistant runs in your own account with Anthropic, OpenAI or Perplexity, under your agreement with them. AI systems produce confident and incorrect output. Check anything you rely on, particularly for legal, financial, compliance, safety or employment decisions.

What we do undertake is narrower, and is the actual product: to record which version of a document is current, to keep replaced versions out of what the assistant reads, and to log what was filed and when.

Known limits, stated rather than buried: scanned documents and images with no text layer cannot be read; dense numeric tables in PDF form may be extracted inaccurately, so send spreadsheets for those; and two documents filed under similar names may both be treated as current, in which case the assistant will find both.

The service is provided as is. During early access there is no uptime commitment and no guaranteed support response time. We depend on Google, our hosting provider and your AI provider, and interruptions caused by them are not ours to fix.

Your content

We use your documents only to provide the service. We do not use them to train AI models and we do not sell them. Document text is sent to our AI classification provider to work out where a document should be filed — see the Privacy Policy.

Ending it

You can stop at any time. Ask us and we will transfer your documents into a Google Drive you control, or export the whole library to you — files, index and version history — whichever you prefer. There is no charge for it and we will not delay it. Once you have them we delete the metadata we hold, keeping only the minimum our own records and the law require.
